Generic image
Your image is a placeholder or generic graphic rather than a real photo of the product, so the item is disapproved.
What this error means
Google requires the image to show the actual product. When it detects a placeholder or generic graphic instead, it disapproves the product until you supply a real image.
Why it happens
The core problem is that the image does not show the actual product. Generic images include logos, a "no image available" graphic, a silhouette, or a "coming soon" placeholder. These usually appear when a product was added before its real photo was ready, or when a store falls back to a default image for items without one.
How to fix it
- Replace the image with a clear photo of the actual product on a plain background.
- Point the
image_linkattribute at that real image URL. - Remove default or placeholder images from products that lack a photo. If a real photo is not ready yet, pause the product rather than submit a generic image.
- Avoid logos, illustrations, and generic symbols as the main image.
- Update the feed and wait for re-crawl.
Fixing it in your store
Stores often serve a default placeholder for products without an uploaded image. This error means the feed is passing that placeholder as the product image. Upload a real photo at the product level, and make sure your feed tool sends the actual image_link rather than a site-wide fallback. For products genuinely without a photo yet, it is better to hold them back than to submit a placeholder.
How long until it clears
Once a real product image is live and re-crawled, expect approval within 1 to 2 days.

Image too small
The product image has too few pixels to meet Google's minimum size requirement.
Promotional overlay on image
The product image contains text, a logo, a watermark, or promotional elements that Google does not allow.
Uncrawlable image [image link]
Google could not fetch the image at your image_link URL. Affected products may keep showing for a while, but can become disapproved until Google can crawl the image.
