Missing value [gtin]
Google is missing the GTIN (barcode) for products from brands that have one.
What this error means
Your product feed does not contain a GTIN (the barcode number) for a product that Google expects to have one. Products from established brands almost always carry a GTIN, and Google wants it in the gtin attribute.
Why it happens
For most branded products, Google requires a valid GTIN to match your product to its catalog. When the GTIN is missing, Google cannot make that match, so it disapproves the product or cuts its visibility sharply. The usual causes are a barcode that was never entered in the store, a feed column that is not mapped to the gtin attribute, or a product that genuinely has no GTIN being treated as if it should have one.
How to fix it
- Find the correct GTIN on the product packaging or ask the manufacturer. It is the number under the barcode: EAN in Europe, UPC in North America.
- Fill the
gtinattribute in your feed with that number. - For products that genuinely have no GTIN, such as handmade items or your own private label, set
identifier_existstonoinstead of leavinggtinempty. - Resubmit the feed and wait for Google to re-crawl the product.
Do not guess. Entering a made-up or borrowed GTIN trades this error for a worse one, because Google matches the number against its product catalog and flags values that belong to a different product. A correct GTIN or an honest identifier_exists: no are the only two clean outcomes.
Fixing it in your store
Enter the GTIN in the barcode or GTIN field of your store platform, or a custom field if your setup has none, and map that field to the gtin attribute in your feed tool. For private-label products, map identifier_exists to no so the feed sends the right signal instead of an empty value.
How long until it clears
Expect the disapproval to lift 1 to 3 days after Google re-crawls the corrected feed.
