Expired product
The product has expired, either past its expiration date or because the feed has not refreshed in 30 days, so it stopped showing.
What this error means
An expired product has stopped showing because its data is considered stale. This happens either when the expiration_date you set has passed, or when the product has not been refreshed for 30 days. It is not a data validation error like most disapprovals, but a freshness and visibility issue: the product data is simply out of date.
Why it happens
Every product expires 30 days after its last refresh, or on the expiration_date you provide, whichever comes first. So products expire when a feed stops updating, when a scheduled fetch fails silently, or when an expiration_date was set too close and then passed. The item is not wrong, it has simply gone stale in Google's eyes.
How to fix it
- Resubmit the product data so the affected items refresh and their expiry resets.
- Set up a regular feed schedule, ideally daily, so products never sit for 30 days without a refresh.
- Check that scheduled fetches are actually succeeding, not failing quietly.
- If you use
expiration_date, set it far enough ahead, up to one year, and only to deliberately retire a product. - Confirm the products return after the fresh submission.
Fixing it in your store
Expiry is almost always a feed-freshness issue, not a product issue. Make sure your feed tool pushes updates on a reliable schedule and that Google can fetch it without errors. If you use scheduled fetches, verify the URL stays reachable and the fetch is not silently failing. Only use expiration_date when you actually want a product to stop showing on a set date.
How long until it clears
Once a fresh feed is submitted successfully, expired products usually return within hours to a day.
