Missing value [brand]
The brand attribute is empty for a product that is expected to have one, so Google cannot identify it properly.
What this error means
The brand attribute is one of the identifiers Google uses to recognise a product. When it is expected but missing, Google cannot match your item to the same product elsewhere, which limits or disapproves it.
Why it happens
Most manufactured products have a brand, and Google expects it alongside the other identifiers. The value is often missing because the store keeps brand in a custom field, a category, or a product attribute that is not mapped to the feed. Some products genuinely have no brand, such as certain unbranded or generic goods, and the requirement can differ by product category, so the exact expectation depends on what you sell.
How to fix it
- Add the brand at the product level. For most items this is the manufacturer or the label the product is sold under.
- Map that field to the
brandattribute in your feed. - For private-label products, submit the brand name customers actually see the product sold under, rather than defaulting to the store name or inventing a value.
- For genuinely unbranded products, follow Google's guidance for that product category rather than inventing a brand.
- Update the feed and wait for re-crawl.
Fixing it in your store
Brand is almost always present somewhere in your product records, just not connected to the feed. Check whether your store holds it as a dedicated field, a taxonomy, or a custom attribute, and map whichever one holds the real manufacturer name to the brand attribute. Filling it once at the source and mapping it correctly fixes it across every affected product at once.
How long until it clears
After the brand is in the feed and re-crawled, expect the product to qualify within 1 to 3 days.

Insufficient unique product identifiers
Google does not have enough unique identifiers (GTIN, MPN, brand) to understand your product, so it limits or disapproves it.
Missing value [gtin]
Google is missing the GTIN (barcode) for products from brands that have one.
Invalid value [gtin]
The GTIN you submitted is not a valid barcode, so Google cannot match your product to its catalog and disapproves it.
