Restricted products
Your product falls under a restricted category, so Google may limit where it can show until you meet the category-specific requirements.
What this error means
Some products are not banned but are restricted, which means Google only allows them under extra conditions. Until those conditions are met, the product is disapproved. This is different from prohibited content, which is never allowed.
Why it happens
Restricted categories are legally or culturally sensitive, so Google limits where and to whom they can show. Examples include alcohol, adult-oriented products, gambling-related content, healthcare and medicines, and financial products, but this is not a definitive list. The exact rules differ sharply by subcategory and by country, and some are handled through separate policies. Depending on the category, running these can require certification, target-location limits, or additional information. If your product sits in a restricted category and its specific requirements are not met, it is limited or disapproved.
How to fix it
- Identify which restricted category your product falls under from the policy detail in Merchant Center.
- Check Google's specific requirements for that category, since they differ per type and per country.
- Complete any required certification or application, and limit targeting to approved locations where needed.
- If a product does not belong in the restricted category, correct the data that made Google classify it that way.
- Request a review once the requirements are met.
Fixing it in your store
Sometimes a product is flagged as restricted because of how it is described rather than what it is, for example wording that reads as a medical or alcohol claim. Review the title and description for language that triggers a sensitive category, and make sure your product data is accurate. For genuinely restricted products, the fix is meeting Google's conditions, not editing the feed.
How long until it clears
Simple cases clear within days of a review. Categories that need certification or location approval take longer, depending on how quickly the requirements are met.

Prohibited or dangerous products
Your product is in a category Google does not allow at all, so it is disapproved and repeated or egregious cases can suspend the account.
Misrepresentation of self or business
Google suspended the whole account because it could not verify enough trust signals like return policy, contact details, and payment information.
Account suspended for policy violation
Google has suspended your entire Merchant Center account for a policy violation, so none of your products can show until you fix the cause and request a review.
Still disapproved?
When the fix does not stick, get a second pair of eyes
Some disapprovals are stubborn, and account-wide suspensions rarely have a single clean cause. I go through your feed, products, and Merchant Center settings and tell you exactly what is blocking approval, in plain language. From $297. No retainer, no commitment.
